Bieber Posts DMX Video Without Comment as Fans Speculate on His Message
Justin Bieber had fans and the general public talking over the weekend after sharing a cryptic video on Instagram, which many believe had a hidden message about drugs.
The 31-year-old singer, who is rumoured to be gearing up for a world tour soon, shared a video on Sunday on his Instagram of the late rapper DMX exchanging words with spiritual coach and self-help author Iyanla Vanzant.
The video shared on Bieber’s official IG, originally from a 2013 episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life, sees the rapper open up to Vanzant about how he feels about being sober.
DMX says, “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?”, when Vanzant tells him that if he remains a sober person, he would be “a clear, pure vessel for the voice of God”. The rapper calmly replies, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God”.
Bieber, however, didn’t write any caption to accompany the video on Instagram. The music star also reposted the clip from a Los Angeles-based cannabis dispensary account, “Gassy”, which is making fans question his opinion about marijuana usage.
The artist has since deleted the post from his story.
No Commentary, But Motive Analyzed
As said earlier, the Canadian native didn’t leave any comment on the post on Instagram. But the story shared was believed by many to be a sly jab at drug use, especially marijuana. The Baby hitmaker has been open about his newfound spiritual journey as an adult.
He often mentions his religion as the root of his changed ways. Bieber’s relationship with the Churchome pastor Judah Smith is one of the constant stabilizers in the singer’s life. A large section of fans have been raising the question of where the rapper’s faith lines up with this video.
Instagram story might not have said a lot. But it wasn’t shared as a standalone post. The singer has, over the last year, shared multiple images of himself holding bongs or sitting on a chair in a hazy room. The singer has previously been warned to take better care of his health.
He had reportedly suffered anxiety issues and several other health issues. The health issues had reportedly taken a toll on the singer’s personal life. Bieber himself said in an interview that he was headed in the wrong direction.
Legal But Image-Altering
The singer, in the Instagram story, was seen sharing views on drug use that suggested taking a more lenient view on marijuana. Recreational use of marijuana is legal in California, the US state where Bieber lives with his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their almost 11-month-old son, Jack Bieber. The couple’s relationship has been a topic of fascination for fans and critics since their engagement and marriage a few years back.
The public, however, wants to know if the star was vaping or smoking in the bong photos he shared over the last year. As of earlier this year, a representative of the singer has been quick to shut down any claims that the star had taken to hard drugs. In a February interview with TMZ, Bieber’s rep was quoted as saying, “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is absolutely not true”.
The representative said Bieber was “in one of the best places in his life”. The rep went on to say that Bieber was being the best dad to his son and was also working on new music. “This last year has been a very transformative period for Justin,” the statement added. The rep also said that Bieber had to part ways with several business associates and friends during this period of his life and added that the singer was happy with these decisions.
July brought yet another milestone in Bieber’s music career as he dropped his seventh studio album on July 11. The album, titled Swag, was released as a surprise and received near-universal critical acclaim. Swag was said to be a “personal” record for Bieber and offered a mix of introspective cuts, vulnerable tracks as a husband and father, tributes to his wife and son, and made-for-comedy skits with social media influencer Druski.
The skits in the form of “therapy sessions” were part of a mock conversation between Bieber and Druski to break the tension between the more serious songs. The skits gave insight into Bieber’s mental health and his journey of self-discovery. Many of the songs off the album Swag reflected his journey from a global superstar as a teenager to a mature adult, husband, and father.
The album was received with curiosity on the part of the public and fans, as for where the new record lines up with Bieber’s candid post on Instagram, fans have been scratching their heads and are coming up with theories.
The more important question that may soon have an answer is, will Bieber be back on tour soon?
Fans Expecting Tour
Fans have already gone crazy with the online debates about the video on Instagram and are hopeful that a world tour will also be announced soon. Recent speculations have hinted at an Australian tour for the Swag singer, but there is no confirmation yet from Bieber or the booking agency Frontier Touring.
Rolling Stone reached out to Frontier Touring for any information about the Swag singer performing in Australia, and the agency confirmed that it has “no information” at the moment.
The singer had last taken his music on the road as part of his Justice World Tour in 2022. The global tour was cut short due to Bieber’s health issues. The Swag tour would be his first international foray after the hiatus and the intense period of change in the singer’s life.
Whether it is a statement, a challenge, or a non-issue, only Bieber knows. But, as he once sang, “Every time you move, move the line”. Whether or not Bieber will take his renewed energy for his faith, family, and music on tour is yet to be seen.
