Marvel Drops First Full Trailer for Ironheart Ahead of June Release
Ryan Coogler has been on a roll this year. Hot on the heels of his latest directorial box office hit Sinners, he’s already got his next big project lined up: Marvel’s new limited series Ironheart, for which the studio just dropped a slick new trailer ahead of the show’s June 2025 release date.

The six-episode series is a part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams (aka Ironheart), a teenage tech genius who, in the comics, acts as a protégé of Tony Stark. It will be the last TV series in the MCU’s Phase Five.
Announced in December 2020, Ironheart was originally scheduled for 2023. Marvel has since adjusted its long-term content release plan and decided to reduce the number of titles being published each year. The change in strategy was attributed to concerns over the impact of market oversaturation, and it was among the reasons for the debut being pushed back to this summer.
A look at footage from the 2024 D23 event revealed that the series will be “a crime show with an Iron Man twist at the center.” These are early comments on the project, but they at least suggest that Ironheart might not be as light or fanciful as some of its MCU TV series counterparts.
Marvel’s Ironheart character was first seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022
Riri Williams made her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. In the film, Riri found herself on the opposite side of the conflict with Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta) and his army of blue-skinned people when her vibranium detector invention she created at MIT, got her involved in the Wakandan conflict. She soon forms a friendship with Shuri, who connects with her over science, and starts building an armored suit in the style of Iron Man to help Wakanda in its defense. At the end of the war, the Wakandans asked Riri to leave the suit with them, and she returned to MIT.
A new story of balancing tech with magic
Ironheart’s story begins shortly after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. “Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart pits technology against magic when Riri—determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins, aka ‘The Hood’ (Anthony Ramos),” reads the official synopsis.
The cast members for the series also include Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington (Riri’s best friend), Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Manny Montana as Cousin John, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Riri’s mother, Ronnie, and Shea Coulée as Slug. Jim Rash reprises the role of the dean of MIT, a part that he first portrayed in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Sacha Baron Cohen is also part of the MCU series, though Marvel hasn’t given any details about the character he will be playing.
Thrilling action scenes are featured from the very start in the new trailer.
After a flashy opening montage that quickly sets up Riri as a bright and driven girl who, thanks to a startup grant from an anonymous donor, is building an armored suit, the trailer gives viewers an inside look at her first mission with The Hood.
The situation she finds herself in is part of a test (or, as Parker calls it, an “interview”). Trapped inside a pizza shop whose phone lines are down (she walked in while they were closed), Riri has two minutes to escape the elevator full of poison gas. The Hood, whom we can hear over the intercom, points out to Riri that unless she’s able to break into the floor-mounted case and access the gas mask within, she won’t be able to breathe. The tech prodigy finds a way to disable the elevator and lets the poison gas out to escape, but she flatly refuses to “play along” with the game.
Impressed by her skills, The Hood offers Riri a deal to work with him on an unspecified job that “is not the right thing, but that’s not the point.” Riri, not one to turn down a challenge and interested in the thought of working on something “iconic,” quickly accepts the offer with a simple “Deal.” The friends are immediately concerned, and it’s hard to blame them, considering what The Hood goes on to say: “Anyone who has ever accomplished anything iconic in life has had to do some questionable things to get it done.”
It looks like we’ll be in for a treat when it comes to exploring the compromises one might have to make in the name of ambition, particularly for one as young and as talented as Riri Williams. Audiences will also be watching her as she’s constantly questioned and challenged by those around her, and we’re dying to see her push the boundaries and rise to the challenge.
Marvel Studios announced that the first three episodes of Ironheart will be available to stream on Disney+ on June 24, 2025, with the remaining three episodes releasing weekly. It’s also not been ruled out that a second season may follow if the series performs well with audiences. But for now, we can get a feel for the action, the thrills, and the tensions in the trailer and a new behind-the-scenes featurette.
